Brief Summary

I work as a lecturer with the Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS) teaching in the Indigenous Community, Indigenous Pre-Medicine and the Indigenous Cultures and Health Behavour unit for Health Science students. Some of the subjects I teach in and coordinate at CAS include: Mental Health Law and Ethics, History of Mental Health and Introduction to Human Biology.

I also enjoy martial arts training, yoga, motorcycling and body boarding.

Before becoming a nurse, I worked in the computer industry as a system designer and also undertook customer training in Hong Kong, Macau and Sydney. I made the career change to nursing and completed a 12 month graduate program with St John of God hospital following my degree. This was in Perioperative nursing and it was the area I worked in for approximately five more years. I then branched out into more acute areas such as ED, ICU and CCU across Perth and in some country centres. In addition to these areas, I found an increasing interest in mental health and forensic nursing and as the years passed, I saught staff development roles too, as I enjoyed the teaching component of my work. I also have served as a Nursing Officer with the RAAF Reserves since 2001 and currently work at St John of God Midland in ICU, CCU and Emergency. Thus I feel my broad experience base lends itself to what I really enjoy the most and that is teaching future health practitioners.
